About Ube

What is ube?

Ube (pronounced OO-beh) is a purple yam (Dioscorea alata) that has been part of Filipino cooking for generations. It has a gentle, naturally sweet flavor with hints of vanilla and nuts, and a striking violet color that comes from natural plant pigments called anthocyanins.

Is ube the same as purple sweet potato or taro?

No. Ube is a true yam. Purple sweet potato is a different plant with a firmer, earthier taste, and taro is a pale-fleshed root with a starchy, nutty flavor. Many “ube” products are colored with dyes or purple sweet potato — ours is 100% ube.

What does Ube Daily taste like?

Soft and mellow: think vanilla, white chocolate and toasted nuts. It's naturally sweet but not sugary, so you can sweeten your drink as much or as little as you like.

Does it contain caffeine?

No. Ube is a root vegetable, so our powder is completely caffeine-free.

What are the ingredients?

Just one: 100% purple yam (ube) powder. No added sugar, colors, flavors, fillers or preservatives.

Is it vegan and gluten-free?

Yes, it's plant-based and naturally free from gluten, dairy, soy and nuts.

How many servings are in a bag?

A 100 g pouch makes about 20 lattes at 5 g each.

How do I store it?

Reseal the pouch and keep it in a cool, dry, dark place. Best used within 12 months of opening.

Recipes & Preparation

How do I make an ube latte?

Whisk about 2 teaspoons (5 g) of powder with 2–3 tablespoons of hot water until smooth. Add 200 ml of warm or iced milk, sweeten to taste, and enjoy.

Which milk works best?

Any! Oat milk brings out the vanilla notes, coconut milk makes it extra tropical, and dairy milk gives a classic creamy latte.

Why isn't my latte bright purple?

Natural ube color softens with lots of milk. Use a little more powder, whisk it into a paste first, and avoid very alkaline water. The color is natural, so it won't look like dyed café drinks.

Can I bake with it?

Yes. Replace 2–4 tablespoons of flour with ube powder in pancakes, cakes, cookies and breads.
